I found a tiny budgie egg at a pet shop. If I could incubate it, would I be able to raise it? With these big human hands? It's mother had just been sold. This meant the egg would have no chance without me giving it a try.
Last saturday we had some music technicalities to solve. Sorry if you have been waiting on the video. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did making it :)

The egg was clean and clear up until hatching.. how come there was bird poop on the egg during hatching if this egg was in the incubator the whole time with no contact from other birds?

I appreciate the kindness you showed in rasing this budgie, but there are a few things that you should know and note in your video. Chicks should be allowed to struggle out of their shells on their own. The effort of doing this actually causes the absorption of the yolk sac. If a bird is helped along, they will miss out on some or all of this very important source of nutrients. Feeding a chick is best done with a small syringe with which you can give the proper amount of food each time wihtout the risk of aspiration associated with using a spoon. There is always a risk of this, but it is much safer to use a syringe. Also, you can keep track of how much you are feeding each time more accurately to ensure the baby is getting the proper amount of nutrition/hydration. Candling (looking into an egg with the aid of a light source) is always exciting. It's great for people to see this. Also, there would have been no harm buying the father before the little one flew. IIn fact, if the father had been present since birth, he would have taken over feeding responsibilities from the beginning. I've seen fathers raise wonderful chicks. Chicks will peep and pester any bird nearby until they are fed. Chicks will even feed siblings. One last thing that I learned through rasing many budgies and chicks, is that a bird mother and nature really do know best. Just because you can save a chick, doesn't mean you should. If a mother abandons one chick, she often knows there is something wrong wiht it, Chicks that fail to hatch on their own often lives sickly lives if helped. Of course, where there is no other bird to feed them, we can step in like you have done. Hand-rearing does make for very people-friendly birds. This can also be done thtough bathing and play, while leaving the feeding to other birds. I'm happy you were sucessful. I do worry that people without enough training or experience might try to raise one on a whim, just using what they saw on this video as reference.

I once brought up a little blackbird. It took me like 4 weeks until it was ready to go. He/she was visiting me for another 9-10 days to get some food and spend some time sitting on my shoulder. It was like 2 years ago... I'm curious if it's still alive🥺
